The Wirral Recorder Orchestra was founded in 1998 by Diane Barton, to encourage recorder players from all over the North West to play in an orchestral setting. We generally perform two concerts per year in December and May. The orchestra has nearly fifty members and its instrumentation includes sopranino, descant, treble, tenor, bass, great bass and contra bass recorders. |

Our repertoire stretches from Renaissance to Contemporary and includes commissions from composers who specialise in writing for the recorder. Our concerts have included works featuring a variety of soloists including tuba, organ, trumpet, viola, saxophone, WMC Chorale, cathedral choristers and, of course, virtuoso recorder. The orchestra welcomes new players and those interested should contact Diane Barton. The WRO rehearse on the second Saturday of each month at Hamilton Memorial United Reformed Church, Claughton, Birkenhead, Wirral |
For those who do not feel ready to join the performing orchestra, Diane runs a Training Orchestra which also meets on a Saturday afternoon at the same venue in Claughton and interested players should contact Diane.
